About Julie.

I’m Julie Garvey, owner and photographer at Blue Belle Photography.  I grew up in southeast Michigan and graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Michigan. Several years after graduation, I picked up photography as a hobby to satisfy my creative side while working in washington, dc. After I met and married my husband, we were stationed overseas in the republic of Georgia where MY photography hobby grew into a committed endeavor. I DOCUMENTED MUCH OF OUR TRAVELS AND developed a non-profit photographing expat families in exchange for money for a local women’s shelter. since then, i’ve photographed many young families, children, pets, MILITARY CEREMONIES, AND even a few engagements. i love to connect with my clients and create images that are meaningful and lasting.

My husband is a RETIRED military officer and we have settled in beautiful charleston, south carolina where i dedicate most of my time our two energetic young boys and our rescue dog. as my boys grow and my time frees up, i’m excited to be expanding my photography journey here at home.

I would be honored to photograph the most important thing in your life: your family AND MILESTONES, in all of its special stages and evolving forms. I am willing and able to branch out, so don’t hesitate to inquire about how my services can help you achieve your photography vision.

Why I love photography.

Photography has taken me on a journey of seeing places and capturing people in a way that only a camera lens can do. Through it, I’ve witnessed loving families, simple and celebratory moments, and beauty in unexpected places. For me, photography is simultaneously a technical skill and an art. A picture, when framed correctly, can capture an emotion and portray a feeling that you can always return to.

WHY THE NAME BLUE BELLE?

The bluebell flower SYMBOLIZES

HUMILITY, CONSTANCY, GRATITUDE, EVERLASTING LOVE

I chose THE NAME blue belle BECAUSE I began my photography journey taking pictures of flowers. GIVEN THAT I’M BASED IN CHARLESTON, IT’S also a spin ON the “southern belle.” THE COLOR Blue REPRESENTS things in my life that are closest to my heart: my love FOR the ocean, my alma mater (Go Blue!), and above all my two happy boys WHO ARE my world.
